A nose job or rhinoplasty is a cosmetic surgery to change the size or shape of the nose.
The first consultation
If you are considering a nose job, we invite you to make an appointment with our surgeon to discuss this procedure. Our doctor will ask you what bothers you and what expectations you have.
A perfect nose does not exist. However, nose surgery can improve your facial features. Our doctor will tell you during the consultation if your expectations are realistic and what technique will be used. He will then ask you about your general health condition and will discuss the risks and recovery time of a nose surgery.
The surgery
A nose job is being done under general anaesthesia and on an outpatient basis, meaning that you will leave the clinic the same day.
During the procedure, the surgeon makes cuts within the nostrils. And sometimes also across the base of the nose. The inner bone and cartilage are reshaped.
Recovery
During the nose surgery, the plastic surgeon places nose tampons (cotton wool plugs) in the nose to stop possible bleeding. It is best to keep those in the nose for 24 hours and that way you will have to breath through the mouth.
Once the plugs have been removed, the nose might be blocked because the mucous membrane will still be swollen as a result of the surgery.
In most cases, a nasal splint will be placed by the surgeon at the end of the surgery. You need to wear this splint during one week.
You can expect swelling and some bruising around the eyes. These symptoms could even get worse after the first 48 hours.
It is recommended to not blow your nose during the first two weeks after the nose correction. It is best to avoid strenuous activity for three to six weeks after your nose surgery. You can resume your social activities after about two weeks.
You will see the final shape of your nose after it has completely healed. This can take until one year after the surgery.
Nose tip correction
Some persons might desire a correction of the nose tip. This can be discussed during a consultation with the plastic surgeon.
